PSP Emulators – The Facts and the Issues
Whether you're looking for a game emulator for the PSP or a PSP Emulator for another
system, there are a few things that you need to know.
The Facts
First of all, an emulator is a program that lets a computer emulate a video game console, either to allow
users to play older video games on personal computers, or to translate games into another format for use on a
different console.
Because certain video games are designed to run on only one system, engineering minds
employed the use of emulation to bring their favorite games to life on another system, or on their personal
computer.
What started as only Atari emulation expanded and soon emulators started popping up for
every game system available, with finally the existence of the PSP emulator. As computers advance, and both
game and emulator developers enhance their skill, the length of time between a release of a game or console and the
copied ROM or emulator is shrinking.
The Problems
Many PSP emulator users notice that the emulators are riddled with bugs that can terrorize a perfectly
running system. But this isn't the only thing emulator users have to worry about.
As more emulators emerge, companies are cracking down on efforts to stop unofficial
emulation. Websites that host emulators and ROMS are being shut down at breakneck speed, either through legal
action or in fear of such.
Without permission from the game company or console manufacturer, using ROMS and emulators
such as the PSP emulator is illegal.
It can be argued that the illegality of this practice should be dissolved as many older
games that are no longer on the market are still highly sought after and hard to find. Video game fans of old
still actively play these two-dimensional games and believe them to be more pleasing to the eye than modern 3-D
graphics.
ROM and Emulator sites hold the belief that game companies can no longer gain income from
these older titles and that games can be downloaded and played via emulators such as the PSP emulator for
twenty-four hours before they must be deleted. This is not the case. Emulators and ROM titles are
illegal at anytime and though tempting, should not be used.
As for the debate on whether or not companies can gain income from past titles, the answer is undoubtedly that they
can, especially in the instances of archived collections or enhanced remakes of their systems.
Before you go seeking that great new PSP emulator and get ready to download hot PSP titles
like Madden NFL 09, think about what you're doing. Not only will you be furthering already illegal
practices, but you are risking the health of your computer.
